Choccolocco Clinches Road Win with Power Hitting and Devine's Complete Game 1 Performance
Lake Oconee, GA — The Choccolocco Monsters used timely extra-base hits and a gritty complete-game effort from right-hander Damon Devine to defeat the Oconee Wild Things, 5–2, on Saturday at Lake Oconee Academy.
Devine Delivers Complete Game
Damon Devine went the distance on the mound for Choccolocco, tossing a seven-inning complete game. He gave up only six hits, two earned runs, and eight walks while striking out seven. Despite allowing multiple baserunners, Devine kept the Wild Things off balance and stranded 12 runners, including the bases loaded in the final inning to seal the win.
Turner Leads the Charge at the Plate
Right fielder, Jace Turner, was a star at the plate. He finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, and three RBIs. His go-ahead 2-RBI double in the second inning gave the Monsters a lead they never surrendered. He added a clutch RBI triple in the seventh to top off the Monsters' lead. Center fielder Roby Brooks helped the win with two doubles and two runs scored. Cooper Jarvis added an RBI triple and Peyton Watts reached base three times and scored once, continuing to set the table from the top of the lineup.
Monsters Build and Maintain the Lead
The Monsters jumped out to a 2–0 lead in the second inning on Turner's double, followed by an RBI triple from Jarvis in the third to make it 3–0. Oconee responded with runs in the third and fourth to trim the lead to 3–2, but Choccolocco tacked on insurance with Turner's triple in the seventh.
Oconee's Missed Opportunities
Despite drawing eight walks and collecting six hits, the Wild Things struggled to cash in, leaving 12 runners on base, throughout the game. Will Goff went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, and Daniel Bell added a hit and an RBI, but the lineup couldn't break through against Devine. Starter Jordan Walden lasted 4.1 innings for Oconee, giving up four earned runs with eight strikeouts. Relievers Payton Doyle and Brady Cunningham combined for 2.2 innings of solid work but received little run support.
