Gainesville Gol'Diggers Walk It Off in Wild 12–11 Victory Over Atlanta Astros for Game One of a Doubleheader
Gainesville, GA. (June 28, 2025) — In a game filled with momentum swings, big bats, and late inning drama, the Gainesville Gol'Diggers edged the Atlanta Astros, 12–11, in extra innings Saturday night at Riverside Military Academy. The back-and-forth affair saw 23 combined runs, 19 hits, and 24 walks. It all came to a head in the bottom of the eighth, when Bryce England, placed on second to start the inning, came around to score the game-winning run, capped by a single from Adrian Jimenez.
Early Fireworks
The night kicked off fast with Astro's Noah Jordi crushing a solo home run in the top of the first. Gainesville answered immediately, as England drove in Jacob Bohacek to tie things up. The Gol'Diggers grabbed momentum in the second when Bohacek launched a two-run homer, and Michael Stonecipher added an RBI single in the third to extend the lead to 4–1.
Astros Rally, Gol'Diggers Respond
Astros rallied back with a important five runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run blast from Max Pronzy and another home run from Jordi, his second of the night. By the end of the frame, Atlanta led 6–4. Gainesville didn't take long to respond with a five-run fifth, including a two-run homer from Noah Darden and RBI contributions from Samuel Bradley, Ira Jeffries-Harris, and England. The Gol'Diggers reclaimed the lead, putting the score at 9–6. The Astros refused to go quietly, tying it with four runs in the sixth. Victor Junco's two-run double and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Uribe helped Atlanta jump ahead 11–9 in the seventh.
Grit and Grind
Gainesville didn't blink. A gritty bottom of the seventh featured an RBI groundout from Darden and a mistake at first that allowed Jeffries-Harris to cross home and tie the game at 11–11. After a scoreless top of the eighth for Atlanta, Gainesville capitalized. With England on second (due to extra-inning rules), Jimenez delivered a single to left, and a throwing error allowed England to slide home for the win.
