Crackers Survive Aviators’ Rally to Win 7–6
Alpharetta, GA — June 20, 2025. The Atlanta Crackers took an early lead and held on to a third-inning comeback to outlast the Alpharetta Aviators 7–6 on Thursday night at Alpharetta Legion Post 201. Their relentless offense in the second and third innings and a lights-out performance from the bullpen, the Crackers improved to 4–5 on the season.
Early Fireworks
After falling behind 1–0 at the bottom of the first, Atlanta spring to action, with four runs in the second. Davis Roesler got the bats going with an RBI double, followed by a Braxton Brooks RBI single. Connor Hilton topped off the inning with a 2-RBI double, part of his 2-for-4 night that included a walk, stolen base, and two RBIs.
In the third, Crackers kept the energy rolling. Brooks came through again with another RBI single, and the Crackers tacked on a second run in the frame when Tyler Kelson crossed the plate on a wild sequence, making it 6–2.
Aviators Respond, Then Fade
The Aviators didn't go quietly. In the bottom of the third, Aviators put up a total of four runs on just three hits, aided by a throwing error and a passed ball by the Crackers. RBI plays from Brady Holbrook and Ethan Babcock, who both doubled in a run, tied the game at 6–6. The Aviators showed they were up for the challenge.
But the Crackers had an answer, taking back the led in the fourth.
After a leadoff double from Trevor Allan, who reached base four times and scored twice over the course of the game, Roesler reached on an error by the Aviators' third baseman, allowing Allan to score the go-ahead run. That run proved to be the finial scoring play of the game.
Bullpen Shuts it Down
From the fourth inning on, the Crackers bullpen was nearly perfect, shutting down any advances by the Aviators. After starter Jacob Autry gave up six runs in 2.2 innings, relievers Dylan Holbrook, Benjamin Applebee, Liam Bestermann, and Matthew Lyons combined for 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out eight. Lyons worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn the save. The Crackers' bullpen's ability to shut down the Aviators' powerful offense may have been what ultimately preserved the lead.
Aviators' Arms Can't Contain Crackers Early
Alpharetta's pitching roster struggled early, cycling through a total of seven arms across nine innings. Starter Sam Choate was tagged for four runs in just two innings, while relievers Tyler VanDiver and Kyle Duckwall couldn't stop the damage in the third and fourth. Although Josh Stewart, Ayush Shetty, and Charlie Capretta held the Crackers scoreless over the final five innings, the early damage proved too much to come back from.
Despite a valiant comeback attempt and a strong defensive finish, the Aviators couldn't recover from the Crackers' early offensive outburst. With the win, Atlanta picks up crucial momentum heading into the weekend, while Alpharetta looks to regroup and tighten up their early-inning pitching in the games ahead.
